Business Description/Artwork

My influences are everything I’ve seen, felt and experienced growing up from a small Alaskan village (Chefornak) to where I am now. The artists who inspired me while I studied at the University of Alaska Fairbanks are Alvin Amason, Ron Senungetuk, Ken Lisburne, David Mallot and Claire Fejes.

My early paintings are about Alaskan characters I created to educate and tell stories. These early paintings are whimsical, comical and entertaining, with a sense of what we see and experience in Alaska.

Landscape and portrait paintings are part of my work. Northern lights, dog mushing, berry picking themes are just a few I am well known for. Many of my portrait paintings involve landscape backgrounds, and I always find what respectfully fits.

Abstract painting is what I’m best known for, using bright vibrant colors and bold brush strokes to show movement and dance. Alaska Native cultures have always produced arts containing abstract elements, and I explore and expand into this. Recently I have discovered new audiences by creating other Alaskan lifestyles like fishing, hunting and many types of Alaskan activities.

Often referencing Alaska Native history, my works explores the changing relationships between traditional art and contemporary art. My works re-introduces the art of Alaskan Native Ancestors, and educate people about our fascinating views and expose the diversity of Alaska.

I currently live and passionately create art in Anchorage, Alaska.
