Apaur'luq Art

Arts and Crafts

Business Description/Artwork

My name is Clara Kakutak Brown. I grew up in Alakanuk and started beading when I was in my teen years. I now live in Seward, Alaska and have sold my beadwork to local businesses as well as hosted tables at craft fairs. The beadwork I work with has stories to tell and all are made with love, care and kindness added to each stitch. I was told that I have magic hands.

I started my business in Seward, Alaska in 2024 and decided to call it Apaur’luq Art. Why? Because when I am at my home soil of Alakanuk, most of everyone calls me Apaur’luq (Grandpa) because I am named after my Mom’s dad, Ayugiar Aloysius.

I cannot thank enough for the support I get from individuals all over the state of Alaska as well as Lower 48. I hope to get a table reserved for the upcoming Alaska Federation of Natives conventions. As well as any other events that my little Yu’pik feet can go to. Quyana cakneq for the support I receive and to those who use the handmade jewelry I create. Quyana!
